KoJel Dessert Jel was first manufactured in the 1930's, using gelatin, which was then approved for use by Rabbi Sheinkopf. For the next 5 decades, KoJel became a staple of Kosher consumers nationwide. In 1986, in response to the changing Kosher market, KoJel was reformulated using a unique blend of vegetable gums, but nevertheless resembling gelatin so closely, as to make the new KoJel almost indistinguishable from the old. Even more significantly, for the first time, KoJel was now produced under the supervision of the Orthodox Union (OU). The Kosher public reacted enthusiastically, and new KoJel products were added in quick succession. Diet KoJel, and Diet KoJel Unflavored/Unsweetened came first. KoJel Instant Puddings were next, followed by KoJel Hot Chocolate. The most dramatic addition was the introduction of "The Soup Bowl", KoJel's line of instant soup-in-a-cup in 13 different flavors, with some flavors even made Kosher for Passover! KoJel continues its commitment to quality, Kashrus and creativity. To that end, the KoJel Company published a recipe booklet containing many wonderful recipes using KoJel, most of which were submitted by KoJel consumers.
